The Insurance Practice Group represents insurance companies, surety companies and liquidators of insolvent insurers in reinsurance disputes with reinsurers. The Insurance Practice Group also represents insurers, liquidators of insolvent insurers, and managing general agents in property and liability coverage disputes, retrospective premium litigation, contingent commission disputes, bad faith claims, agency litigation, and professional errors and omissions defense.

  • Represented a large commercial lines property and casualty insurer in the collection of $5 million of retrospective premiums on commercial policies.
  • Analyzed Year 2000 insurance coverage issues.
  • Served as national coordinating counsel for one of the country's premier casualty insurers in coverage determinations on directors' and officers' liability claims.
  • Represents a major life insurance company and the Liquidator of a major insurance company in connection with the collection of reinsurance due on asbestos, environmental, and other toxic tort claims.
  • Handled numerous lawsuits and arbitrations against an insurance company's general agents involving allegations of negligent underwriting, misrepresentation of coverage, underwriting violations outside of the agency agreement, return of commissions based upon contingent commission agreements and return of unremitted premiums.
  • Regularly represent attorneys and accountants in securities fraud, RICO, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty and other tort actions covered by professional liability insurance.
